Bugfix release V1.9.2

17Jan12

Yes, I’m still alive ! Terrible busy with my job at the moment and in the spare time I’m playing Skyrim, which really makes me crazy… So, NextGEN Gallery development has a little break, hopefully after my vacation next week I can catch up some new energy for a restart.

Anyway, I’ve collected a couple of bugfixes the last weeks. The new version 1.9.2 is now avaiable.

Enjoy !

    I keep getting the error “a failure occurred” when the uploader tried to generate the thumbnail images. I’ve searched all over the internet, tried several things, but still no luck. Do you have any tips? Thanks!

    Hi Helen. I have exactly the same problem as you. I was hoping this new version would do the trick. But the problem is still there. The error message with creating the thumbnail says there is not enough memory. I haven’t been able to upload any photos for over two months. If anyone has a solution, I’d be really grateful.

    Hi,
    I’m using your great plugin since I started to work with wordpress. I noticed some days ago the thumbs in the compact album view aren’t there where they have to be. Here’s an example: http://arsenie.net/photos
    If you can see, there is a white space upper the thumbs, what’s wrong with it?

    There is still a bug into the template system!
    Templates for gallerys are working well, but templates for singelpic are not working.
    This bug started September 2011 (Release??) Before the templates for singelpic are OK.
    The describtion for this template: NextGen –Einzelbilddarstellung mit Bildunterschrift per Template is on my Site: http://www.msr-support.de/nextgen-einzelbilddarstellung-mit-bildunterschrift-per-template-2642.htm

    For those having issues with “out of memory” errors – have you looked/checked memory limits in your PHP configuration?
    Most likely, you are using the default values which are not sufficient to handle image resizing and thumbnail generation on the server side.

    Thanks for the update and for the excellent plug-in. I’m having trouble with the “add hidden images” functionality. Though I have it checked, on galleries where there is pagination, the lightbox is only showing 25 out of the 40 or 50 images (the ones associated with that page not the entire gallery). Am I not wrong about the purpose of that checkbox in Gallery Options? Again, many thanks for this excellent plug-in.

    Thanks for this great Plugin, but even in the last version
    there is still this terrible bug when sorting pictures manually (drag & drop)

    Here you can see what i meen: http://klauda.at/screenshot.jpg
    The pointer and the picture an out of “focus” the are not in the place where the should be.
    It is impossible to drag the picture at the right position!

    It would be very nice if the gallery link on a album page opens the gallery images for browsing instead of the gallery page. Such behaviour should be an option within the Settings ofcourse so that the admin manually can switch to such view or use the default one.

    Thanks for the great plugin!

    Just downloaded and installed NextGen Gallery on my WP site, and it seems to be just what I have been looking for, though I do have a few questions about altering the size of photos displayed in a slideshow format, as well as where the images in the slideshow actually appear on the respective page. Is there a way to change the default size/locations of the slideshow images? Also, is there a way to have a description of each photo pop up when a user hovers over the image, even while the slideshow is playing? Please advise. Thank you.

    do have some problems with Thumbnail resizing… before the update all thumbnails (on index page, category pages etc.) where cropped and now they have fixed dimensions.. no matter what i do (mark and unmark “set fixed dimensions”), there is no change…

    Thanks for the advice, Vladimir. It worked. I had to up the php memory limit to more than 65M.

    I have been using this plugin for a few years without a glitch. But, now when I try to add images to a gallery I’m receiving this error.

    **Create Image failed. Check safe mode settings**

    According to the setting for this plugin, safe mode is set to false. I’ve tried going through all different forums and I see a lot of people have the same issue.

    I’ve tried setting the folder permissions to 777. I’ve tried deactivating the plugin, then reactivating. Still no go.

    Thoughts? Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!

    Currently, there’s not an easy way to link images within Gallery overview to a URL, instead of using thickbox or other effect.
    There is a hack using NGG Custom Fields; but unfortunately, it gets written over when updating, and disables thickbox on images without URL links.

    Any chance that the issue of giving image thumbnails the option to link to a URL, or default to thickbox?

    I have just installed the update 1.9.2 of nextGen gallery and it won’t let me upload any pictures. I get the following message:

    ERROR HTTP ERROR: photo name.jpg 404

    Is this happening to anyone else, is it a bug with the new release? I have had no problems uploading in the past.

    I have tried resizing the photo to make it smaller yet it still has the same error. I have also tried different browsers too.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really need to get product picture onto my website.

    My analysis of the bug description from January 18th:
    The problem will only be available if a child themes is used.
    In this application the template directory must be implemented in the child.

    Alex (or anyone that can help),

    I’m looking to add social network sharing buttons to share individual photos when they are displayed. Can anyone provide any guidance on how to accomplish this?

    Hello, I have a big problem.
    I don’t know why, on all other sites when picture is portrait, it’s thumbnail is automatically cropped to fit “compact” gallery style.
    I’ve tried couple methods but it never works.
    Landscape thumbnails works good, but portrait not…
    I’d be great if someone shows me what options should I use.
    Screen: http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/7262/prob1v.jpg

    My second problem is that I can’t add a album thumbnail. When I click to add thumbnail, there is circle for a few second but there are no photos.
    Screen: http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6596/prob2b.jpg

    It’s newest version of NGG.

    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick.

    Great job Alex!

    I have tested it and found only two issues:

    One limitation which is : Slideshow restart at the begining on Page reloading. No real Random or Resume option.

    One new bug : The “Scan folder for new images” seams not to work any more.

    Thanks

    Hello, I have two sites that uses NGallery, and now in second one I have just installed it, firstly it worked perfectly, then something happened after I changed some settings in gallery ACP, now when I can see gallery, but can’t open it, because it shows [Gallery not found]

    Page url: http://siauliaicity.lt/?page_id=37

    In acp gallery and photos shows normaly.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 Tutis Posted January 29th, 2012 - 01:20

    I have found out why gallery was ruining off. I uninstalled it properly, then installed fresh one, created album, gallery, placed gallery to album and uploaded images to gallery… Inserted albums code to page – everything works perfect. But when I changed text [Show as slideshow] and [Show picture list] in ACP, galleries got same error “[Gallery not found]“.

    I solved problem by changing those link title texts in admin/install.php and again properly reinstalling the plugin.

    I cannot view the upload image page – It is blank, so I am unable to add images to any galleries. Using WP 3.3.1 and your latest update. Any thoughts?

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 Olivier Posted January 29th, 2012 - 18:52

    Hi

    I’m wandering where the image Id Counter is stored. I don’t mean the one associated with each image, but the one ready to use for the next-upload. It isn’t the highest +1 because if I delete images in NGG, it still increment as if the delete never happened.

    Does anyone knows?

    I need it to have two sites in parallel with identical NGG pictures IDs.

    Thanks in advance

    Bugfix for the missplaced “insertionmarker” (id=”insertionMarker”) and the (id=”dragDropContent”) when sorting gallery items.

    set it’s position argument to “fixed” in ngadmin.css in line 413 and 433

    So I just updated NextGen to the 1.9.2 release and now I can not upload any files whatsoever. I am using Firefox 9.0.1 on Vista.

    I hope that someone can fix this or tell me how to fix it. When I get to the upload images page, I can select images and they show up on the page to upload, but clicking the upload button does nothing. As if the button is not attached to any commands.

    Thanks!

    I see issues here that look familiar.
    Since a couple of days many of these were also reported on the WordPress forum. Including mine: http://j.mp/yEqwF2
    Look at http://j.mp/zkIX9G as an example.
    Now it’s not possible to insert a picture, gallery or album via the NextGEN-button in a post. Only by typing the code.
    More annoying is that the same happens in adding an image to an album which is not possible!

    Most forum answers are pointing to downgrading to v1.7.4. Please, don’t let me do that!.

    Thanks.

    Hey alex :)

    Mach weiter so!

    Thanks for the great plugin Alex!

    I have a question about tagcloud results.I have a tagcloud displayed in a widget in my footer using:

    8,
    ‘largest’ => 18,
    ‘unit’ => ‘pt’,
    ‘number’ => 45,
    ‘separator’ => ‘ ‘,
    ‘orderby’ => ‘name’,
    ‘format’ => ‘flat’,
    ‘order’ => ‘RAND’,
    ‘exclude’ => ”,
    ‘include’ => ”,
    ‘link’ => ‘view’,
    ‘taxonomy’ => ‘ngg_tag’,
    ‘echo’ => true ); ?>

    I have a page that displays the results using:

    [tagcloud]

    The functionality works perfectly with tagged photos displaying in a table gallery layout. However, above the thumbnails I would like to add the title of the tag in question in a sentence “Photos tagged as: :”.

    Are you able to help out?

    Hi Alex,

    My option ‘Scale images to max width 800px or max height 600px’ doesn’t seem to be working for me. The images stay big. Just wondering what you’d recommend to get this feature working for me. There’s nothing special about my WP installation from what I am aware.

    I installed Next gen gallery 2 weeks ago, purchased monoslider last week, slideshow and pciture gallery now not working, no problem until yesterday. Slidehow just keeps trying to load. Is this a next gen problem or monoslide? Cant use either at the moment, inexperienced user. Please help!!! Many thanks

  41. Gravatar Icon 41 Gavin Posted February 3rd, 2012 - 09:39

    Alex- you have a great plugin but there are some problems with the slideshow in Internet Explorer. Once IE has loaded an image and cached it, it will not reliably generate a load event on the image. So if you do a page refresh on a gallery slideshow you will just see the spinning loading image. It will of course work fine in other browsers.

    As a work around I did this in the loadImage function:

    function loadImage(num){
    // check that stack is not empty and we haven’t alreay loaded 3 images
    if(stackLength > 0 && num <= 3) {
    var img = new Image();
    img.src = stack.shift();
    stackLength–;
    // wait to append image until the load is complete
    if (jQuery.browser.msie) {
    appendImage(img, num);
    } else {
    jQuery( img ).bind('load', function() { appendImage(img, num); });
    }
    }
    }

    I still have all my sites stuck on 1.7.4 because of the problem of the carousel template not working if I use a custom permalink structure of %postname%.

    I have uploaded a test site here with everything up to date, and using the default WordPress theme, just to make sure it wasn’t anything in my theme causing the problem:
    http://megansweb.com.au/nextgentest/
    Notice that if you click on any of the thumbnails, the large picture doesn’t change. And yes, I have done the ‘update your permalink structure one more time’ (several times in fact). It seems the only way to get the carousel to work is to change my site’s permalink structure which is not an option with sites that have already been live for quite a while (and really, the default WP permalink structure is lousy SEO-wise).

    No matter how many times I ask, either here or on the WordPress forums, I can’t get any answer to this, or even an acknowledgement that the problem exists. I have a whole bunch of sites depending on this, and would be happy to pay for a premium support service if it would mean getting the problem fixed, but you don’t seem to offer that option.

    I’m really at the end of my tether with this. It’s been a fantastic plugin, but if this can’t be fixed, I’m going to have to find another plugin to use :-(

    Hello,

    I am creating a site to sell my photographic imagery. In it I’m using nextgen gallery. On this lovely Sunday morning I have been working on speeding up what is accomplished so far.

    Can I limit the downloading of Nextgen to only the specific pages containing the gallery? I noticed in a speed test the files were being downloaded on the front page were the files were not needed. I know other plugins can do this.

    Any help, guidance or answers would be greatly appreciated.

    displaying 7 galleries if I click on say page 4 of a gallery, all galleries move to page 4

    I had everything working then all of a sudden, it started to not let me upload pictures to a gallery. Next thing I know I look in Manage Gallery and there are no pictures displayed. I looked at the Gallery directory and the specific galleries and all of the files are there. I tried import gallery with no luck, deleted the gallery directory via ftp and tried to load the pictures again. All with no luck.

    Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I liked the plugin for the very short period that it actually worked.

    Question: I see that there is ownership of galleries but I can’t find how to have ownership of albums. I want my users to create their own album and from there on, add galleries to that album but I don’t want them to be able to mess with other’s albums.

    Am I missing a configuration somewhere? This is the only thing that is preventing me from going live with the application but it is a show-stopper if I can’t have album ownership.

    Thanks in advance for your help. I have tried the forums but haven’t gotten any responses.

    I have issues with inserting singlepic into posts.

    Ever since the update all inserted pics using singlepic eg:

    [singlepic id=652 w=600 h=421 float=]

    displays the ‘error: file not found’ image.

    Nothing in the back end has changed, the gallery view still works, the lightbox to fullsize image still works and loads …

    url: screwedhardware.com

  49. Gravatar Icon 49 Megan Posted February 9th, 2012 - 02:18

    OK, so I’ve just figured out that it works if the gallery is on any page other than the home page, and it also works if I put it in a post and have my home page show posts. It just doesn’t work if it’s on the home page when that is a static page.

    So as you can see it is broken here:
    http://megansweb.com.au/nextgentest/

    But if I put the same gallery on an internal page it works:
    http://megansweb.com.au/nextgentest/another-page

    Maybe this information can help you pinpoint the problem?

    “Forbidden

    One of my clients asked me how she could rename images within WP, without deleting and uploading again.

    I found the plugin Rename Media (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rename-media/), which does exactly what she wants, only not for images in NextGen Gallery! :-(

    Does anyone have an alternative for this or better: can this be implemented in NextGen Gallery?

    Is there anyway to fix this problem that me and others are having? Once I updated my wordpress and nextgen gallery…the UPDLOAD images photo is absolutely BLANK. No errors…just NADA is coming up. The only way I can add stuff is by uploading photos in the correct folder via ftp and then going to EDIT albums..which still comes up. Please let me know how to fix this because this method is highly inconvenient.

    I have some problems with Thumbnail resizing. When I resize/crop manually some of the thumbnails of my album (in the administration panel) to make them look better, it creates blank spaces in the gallery page every 4 or 5 pictures.
    When I regenerate all the thumbnails of the album, the problem disappear.
    Sorry for my english, I hope you understand my problem and will be able to fix it in the next versions.
    Thanks for your job, this gallery plugin is wonderful.

    I wanted to come back and state that my issue is actually a non-issue. My hosting provider told me they had increased the upload size to 4M but in reality they had not. So my pictures were too big to be uploaded and the Flash uploader did not give me any kind of error message to that effect. When I tried to upload one at a time, that is when I was notified that was the issue. Just wanted to put this out there for others that may be searching to why the Flash upload feature does not appear to work.
